Friend in Need Parts 1 & 2 (aka "fabric" episodes); 3. Escalating levels of sex being used as a tool; 4. Escalating levels of trashiness in character actions, clothing etc; 5. Lack of realisation of potential for storylines (eg Eve's Amazon heritage, the GOL as a malelovent force, the Twilight of the gods, Gabrielle as Ares' heir in season 5, Xena's choice to remain a warrior despite danger to her child and those she loved in season 5, etc); 6. Lack of Alexander the Great; 7. Decline in episode quality in later half of season 6; 8. Writers or TPTB insisting that Xena be completely infallable in later seasons aka "O Mighty Xena" despite Xena's blatant hypocritical and otherwise "bad" actions. Few other things, but the "good" way outweighs the "bad". Cheers, Haeph.

It got out of hand in the later years. Plot inconsistencies. Was it that hard for them to find a story editor, someone who could keep track of the plotlines? Too much gratuitious violence, especially in Season Six (can't complain about the nudity ). The severed head in AFIN was particularly tasteless.

Renee: Why she didn't have more boyfriends, yeah. I guess the relationship between Xena and Ares was so strong, too, that you didn't really need to bring anyone else in.

(2) A bit too much mixing of timelines -- okay to a degree, but bringing in the Trojan war/Ulysses and the late Roman Republic was a bit much. (3) Overdoing Xena's evil past in S6 and making her responsible for great evils on some semi-cosmic scale. (4) The karma/metaphysical stuff in S4. (5) The Harry/Annie/Mattie ubers. (6) Too much "SuperXena" at times. (7) Too many crucifixions and too much of the "vision" in S4. (8) Soulmate overdose in S6. (9) Too many recycled plots in S6. (10) Not enough attention paid to supporting characters in S6. Oh, and Xena not questioning her pregnacy, Callisto the Angel being dear old Dad...that whole thing. 3) The way it became whatever Xena wanted to do was right even when it wasn't. Xena's might made Xena right - and to tartarus with everyone else. 4) The way that Gabrielle lost her way and started being Xena's shadow - becoming a warrior - instead of developing as a bard, or her own path.

Also, inconsistent writing of Gabrielle. (The Gabs who gets carried off shrieking and helpless on Brunhilda's horse is supposed to be the same person as she who went Ginsu in Ides of March?) Callisto was brought back too many times in general, I think, as much as I love her.

What once felt fresh, lively, and organic became ridiculously overused. 2) Super Xena; killing all the gods and being able to manipulate anyone in just about any situation. 3) The gods losing all shred of being deadly forces. Their depiction in S 5 is vastly inconsistent with earlier years, and giving Xena the ability to kill them felt like the most unoriginal way to solve their problems. 4) AUS when Athena gets sung down by the villagers. That scene always makes me want to puke. Hera would've turned them to stone, Athena decides to take the disrespect she's handed. 5) Eve--still hate the character and the actress just didnt fit in well with the series. She exists showing no real purpose 6) The God of Love. I think he should have disappeared after "Fallen Angel." We really didnt need him when we had a host of gods to play with. ~~~~~~~~~ I too once thought I was worth something...

Introducing Akemi the way they did (as an evil character that no one seems to notice as anything but an angel) at the last minute after 6 years. 2. The way the pregnancy theme turned out. The idea that it was Callisto's baby (sweet moment in SOF but then it went nowhere). You did have some great episodes in Season 5 but I felt somehow that they way they dealt with Xena as a mommy was wasted potential. 3. Eve's dramatic and unconvincing character change. And her sappy character thereafter, not to mention her general attitude towards Xena for the most part: 'Why are you protecting me?' 'Let them kill me, let them!'. They never got a chance to have much genuine bonding. Other than the fact she was 'Xena's daughter' I really didn't care for her character at all. 4. YAXI's like Xena's brother Toris, or entire episodes like 'Soul Possession'. 5. Changing the actor/re-using them for different roles. Sometimes it was necessary (Solan - David Taylor not starring in GFC) and sometimes it worked (Karl Urban for Cupid and Caesar and Marton for Borias and Krafster). But it often didn't. For me, Alison Bruce as Melosa the Amazon Queen made an impact, so seeing her in 'Animal Attraction' (and then yet Again in 'Legacy') as someone else bothered me a little bit. As did seeing the sweet old guy in 'BTDT' play two different characters within that 1 episode! Trivial I know, but it is something I picked up that I wasn't really always impressed with.

Way too much focus on the soulmate angle. 2. Eli. 3. While the Evil Xena flashbacks didn't bother me, it would have been nice if at least one person on the writing staff had remembered that there are other really swell numbers besides ten. Exactly how long was that year? 4. I didn't like the way the Twilight of the gods played out. Had I had my way, it would have ended with the god of love being unmasked as evil and Xena, Ares, Athena and Eve (unless still a baby, obviously) defeating him. 5. The way the series ended. 6. Not enough of Eve's character.
