I'm biased because I think character killing can be a good thing. Actors leaving the show make me sad, like Nicolette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives. However, when they killed her off, they did it in a way that, IMO, furthered the current arc. Also, the tribute to her character that they wrote was a good way to say goodbye.

Killing off Xena had to happen, I think. But, like others have said, the manner in which it was done was a bit off because of what I think was little backstory to the beliefs of the Jappa (whom I assume are the Japanese, which the writer based the story on). I guess it was done to give her a noble end. From what little I know about the mythology, the ancient Japanese and Chinese did believe in the possibility that their souls can be trapped in this world, without moving to the other side. Without anyone to pray for them (I assume whole families were killed, thus killing off the lineage of most, if not all, the families), their souls cannot rest and cannot cross over. Xena gave her mortality up for the purpose of giving these souls the rest she robbed from them.

So yeah, I do like FIN, and I don't think Xena's death was as meaningless as a lot of people think. Just don't love cos it hurt to watch (:
