Ok Guys, answer me this, I want to know your favourite genre to read and why.
Personally, I am between three of them Fantasy Sci-fi and Gothic - I find alot of the time they overlap

I said other because I'm not sure I have a favorite genre. I like general, non-genre fiction, but I also like fantasy, historical drama, factual/biography
books... as long as it's good, bring it on!

Fantasy all the way for me. I'm a total Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings nut. I like being able to leave the real world behind for a while and travel to
a world where the impossible becomes possible.

I voted for horror. I love Stephen King! But, in truth I love all genres, like LK said, if it is good writing, bring it on!

Yes, I love Horror stories especially psychological horror. It amazes me how much is actually inside a persons head sometimes.
I love adventure too especially if it has romance on the side. Since I read Xena fanfiction alot, I've been reading alot of adventure or romantic stories. The best stories that I have read add some comedy to the story. My favorite genre differs, though, to how I am feeling at the time.

i read mostly fantasy but i do enjoy scifi, mystery and the occassional satire. i've found that the only satires i read are at least 150 years old because
they have the biting tongue and wit that i feel are essential to the genre. like most of you, if it's well written then i'll read it. i've been
reading more young adult fantasy and enjoying that as well; i think that can put off some readers as they think it might be too simple or boring a read.
really, it just tapers the violence and sex; the plots and characters are still compelling and interesting if well written.
i enjoy fantasy because i love the potential and magical, credendo vides as it says in 'voyage of the basset' -- by believing, one sees. i may not believe in an absolute higher power but i do believe in the potential that our very existence on this earth in this universe presents. if we're here, what else is out there? i can never relinquish my wonder and so enjoy the works of others who feel the same.

It used to be fantasy/scifi, but these days I tend to read more along the lines of factual/biography. Maybe one reason I shifted is that I tend to be rather
picky about fantasy and it's been a long time since I've found a book that meets my standards.

Fantasy. I don't deal well in the 'real world' my world is my imagination and that of others.

I used to be Fantasy all the way. Now sadly all I have time for is academic works with the occasional fanfic to lighten my mood. When reading fanfic I can and
will read all types of genres from crime/mystery to sci-fi to romance to comedy. As for the academic stuff it is limited to archaeology/anthropology/history
and "gender studies".

Since many of my favorite books are either historical novels or read as such (for instance, Tolkien), and I like a great deal of history, too, I had to say
"other." My interests are rather diverse. I have even picked up a romance novel on occasion. I do not read pornography, and too much foul language
and/or explicit sex bothers me a great deal. (I had a lot of difficulty with some of the entries in the Wild Cards series of novels.) And the
Wagons West series of romances disguised as historic epic is absolute trash! Most fanfic writers, even the bad ones, are far better than that!

Come to think of it I think I tend to read Fantasy more than anything else. At the moment I'm reading The Mists of Avalon, Harry Potter and Dead Until Dawn
(a vampire book). I'm not sure if those are usually categorized under Fantasy but if not then fiction...which I also read a lot of.

Hmm I'll read most kinda of genres, but I would say my faves are horror, adventure, and fantasy. My favourite books ever are Lord of the Rings and Philip
Pullmans 'Dark Materials' trilogy. I did go through a crime phase though once and would read only those, but after a while they get to be a bit
repetitive.

how odd that I voted for Horror. I haven't read a horror book in a long long time. I would say fantasy, fiction, and biographies are my most read genre.
