I'm old skool. I watched the pilot back in Jan. '97, AtS from the pilot on. I'm not sure what's better, watching it in real time or doing the dvd thing when those became available.

I do know that I was a dedicated viewer from the pilot, because it kept surprising me. I was a rabid viewer, I *had* to write, by s5. Lord, the butterflies in my belly when I first saw the promos for Buffy vs. Dracula. It didn't turn out like I thought it would, but I *loved* it. And after it ended, I found I *needed* the next episode, and the next and the next.

I had been a fan of other shows before - X-Files, Xena, Star Trek - but no other 'verse grabbed me and held on the way the Jossverse has, and keeps holding onto me. I joke to others on LJ that I'll be the last one at the party when everyone's moved on, still looking for swag and telling war stories while sipping wine. Still writing my ship, even if no one's reading it anymore.

I don't know why the Jossverse grabs on the way it does, but I really think a lot of it has to do with the three dimensional aspect of the characters - no one is perfect, and they all display their flaws spectacularly. But they all manage to do the right thing. I mean, Xander is not a favorite character of mine. I hate how possessive he is, I hate the way he wants the girl he isn't with, but I could never deny his hero's heart or the way he comes through, in the end. I know that he'll always have Buffy's back, no matter what, and that goes far in warming me up to him.

And the writing.......it ain't bad. Not bad at all.
