I liked what they did with the Proteus character, and how at the end Herc ends up defending him and helping him make some friends so he doesn't resort to the harmful pranks against humans anymore. It has one of the best disclaimers, too: "No Slightly Discolored and Impish Gods who vaguely resemble any Candidate in the 1996 presidential elections were harmed during the production of this motion picture." I give it 7.5 Hydra-heads out of 10. Army of Xena wants you!

I'm going to rewatch this soon, although I actually remember it quite well. I agree with Elfrieda's comments about Hercules defending Proteus. I liked the bit in the end scene about making sculptures of Hercules and Iolaus. Not sure about the childish joke about pigeons though. I liked Sorbo's acting as Proteus!Hercules (usually he doesn't play evil characters very well) and some of the special effects weren't too bad. I also liked Hercules admitting that even he teased Proteus when he was a child. I would have expected Hercules to be the "perfect little kid". I wasn't too crazy about the sermonizing at the end, but I never really expected subtlety in a H:TLJ episode. One thing I noticed about this episode: the music was used sparingly. There were several scenes with nothing but silence in the background. I was also surprised to see that 'Protean Challenge' was directed by Oley Sassone. Except for a few tricks towards the end, this was a low-key affair and not as epic as some of his other efforts. Banner made by Pandora. Forum Host and Master of Caption This
